Commissioner Hill established that a quorum was present and called the meeting to order at 16:00. The meeting was held at Station 1, located at 26109 Ridge Avenue, Ocean Park, WA 98640.  Attendance at the meeting included:

Commissioner Hill called for a two minute Executive Session at 16:01 for Pension and Relief Board meeting. Regular session resumed at 16:02.


Presentations and Special Events: Agnes Waliser’s Retirement

The meeting recessed at 16:15 for Agnes Waliser’s Retirement Party.

The meeting resumed at 16:29. All guests left the meeting except for the following: Niccole Beaulaurier, Brian McLeod, and Mark Waliser.


Consent Agenda

  3. August 17th, 2017 4th Week Expenses for a total of $198,926.01
    a. Accounts Payable: $5,836.28

    b. Payroll: $192,660.65

Commissioner Downer made a motion to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Commissioner Hill. Motion carried.


Jack’s Country Store

  1. August 15th, 2017 expenses for a total of $144.65

Commissioner Hill made a motion to approve the expenses for Jack’s Country Store, seconded by Commissioner McLeod. Commissioner Downer abstained. Motion carried.

Commissioner Hill made a motion to approve Resolution 2017-07 – Surplus Property, Stryker Gurney, seconded by Commissioner Downer. Motion carried.


District Chief’s Report: (Report Attached)

  1. AC Karvia Report – AC Karvia reported the following:
    1. Firefighter II testing was this past weekend. 5 career and 5 volunteer firefighters participated. All successfully passed the practical at MERTS. They are currently waiting on their written test results. Capt. DeConto assisted AC Karvia with the practical.
    2. AC Karvia and Capt. DeConto will be instructing an Instructor I class in October at St 21-1.
    3. AC Karvia and Capt. DeConto are working on an acquired structure training burn which will take place on Sunday, October 29th at Joe Johns and Z Street.
  1. AC Karvia is currently working on the 2018 Firefighter I Academy with Chief Scartozzi from the State. There are currently 15 tentative students from both Pacific and Wahkiakum Counties.
  2. AC Weatherby’s Report – AC Weatherby reported that they are currently a quarter of the way through the EMR class. There are 6 students from District #1 and 7 students from other agencies.
  3. Pub Ed Coordinator Karvia’s report – See attached report

Personnel Information:  None


Good of the Order: In August there were 232 calls, 32 of which were fire calls. There was one major incident in Seaview – a fire which included a fatality. There are 1570 calls through the end of August 2017 compared to 1470 calls through the end of August 2016.


Chief Brundage stated we have lots of events and trainings coming up.

Commissioner Hill made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 16:43, seconded by Commissioner McLeod. Motion carried.
