Today is an allowed burn day.

All outdoor burning requires a permit, except backyard BBQ’s and recreational campfires. Beach bonfires are allowed 50′ west of the dune grass line, and are limited in size to 4′x4′x3′.

Backyard Burning Permits are free, and allow for natural vegetation fires no larger than 4′x4′, that are at least 50′ away from structures or dune grass. The permits may be picked up at the Chinook Store, Seaview One Stop, Peninsula Sanitation Office, Pioneer Market, Jack’s Country Store, the Surfside Homeowners Association Office, and the fire stations in Ocean Park and Seaview. You must have the permit with you at the burn site.

Other types of permits are available for larger burn piles:

Special Burning Permits can be obtained for burning natural vegetation in a pile that measures 10′x10′ or smaller. In addition, there must be adequate means available to extinguish the fire if necessary. An inspection will be conducted before a permit can be issued. PERMIT FEE: $25.00.

Land Clearing Permits are issued for a burn pile that is no larger than 20′x20′x15′. Adequate means must be available to extinguish the fire if necessary. An inspection will be conducted before a permit can be issued. PERMIT FEE: $75.00.

Agricultural Burning Permits may be issued for burning of vegetative debris from an agricultural operation, if it is necessary for disease or pest control, necessary for crop propagation and/or crop rotation or where as identified as a best management practice. PERMIT FEE: $25.00 up to 10 acres, then $.75 per additional acre.

Burning may be restricted or banned in the event of impaired air quality or extreme fire danger. Before you burn, please check this website or call the Burn Information Line (336-3508) to confirm that it is an allowable burn day.
